A seventeen year old girl has been accused of assaulting an individual with autism and videotaping it. The judge in this case made the decision to charge the girl as a minor, for which the young lady, with her parents and lawyers, plead guilty. This is instead of the initial charges to be tried as an adult, and under which she might have warranted up to eighty years in prison.
The judge referred to the girl as a criminal with a chilling lack of empathy. Video evidence includes the girl holding a knife to his throat and him falling through ice in a pond. The girl’s attorney says she will now be treated in a therapeutic setting in the juvenile system, but the father of the victim is not happy with the outcome and wanted the girl to be charged as an adult.
